Accentuate the Positive

Positive Thinking

Recently I read an article concerning the power of positive thinking and the need to eliminate the negative, using parts of the lyrics to the old Bing Crosby song. This advice holds so true, not only with this current pandemic, but with life in general. We are surrounded daily with negative news from every media source about covid-19, there is more negativity about the economy than ever before, and in this election year, we are bombarded by negative political advertisements and social media on both sides.

As if that is not enough, we also have to endure the impact to the real estate market, not sure in exactly what direction it will go. Sellers are becoming nervous not knowing whether to sell in the midst of this virus, or wait it out. Will home values stay healthy or decline in the near future?

So, is there anything positive to “accentuate?” Well, as the song says, “Eliminate the negative, latch on to the affirmative and don’t mess with Mister In-Between.” With the right attitude, we can recognize the small steps of positive progress in any situation. The news media is trained to dwell on the negative, for that is what makes “news” but there are so many who have reached out to help during these trying times in unselfish, charitable ways. Jobs are hard to come by these days, and there are many businesses that are forced to close, but for those who do have a job, here lies the positive. As for the political campaign and advertisements, it is up to those who have been given the privilege and right to vote to become educated and make an individual choice. Many countries do not even give that choice. Eliminate the negative and find the positives!

Finally, in the real estate market, builders are still developing new communities and inventory of existing homes has decreased dramatically, thereby creating the opportunity for home appreciation. When this pandemic disipates, there will be a pent-up demand of buyers. We are on the right track, definitely a positive.

“You’ve got to spread joy up to the maximum, bring gloom down to the minimum, have faith or pandemonium is liable to walk upon the scene.” Yes, remember to always “accentuate the positive” for it is there if you just look for it. Are you and your loved ones still healthy? A BIG positive!
