We just returned from a family vacation that we planned a year ago in Hilton Head, SC.  It was one of several yearly trips we have had together and the memories we have made are truly priceless.  

There are ten of us, with four being grandchildren, ranging in age from 7 to 13 years old.  We have watched the “cousins” grow up together and become close to each other while learning their individual personalities.   From the time they were toddlers to now, they have had such fun with various adventures and experiences, encouraging each other to try new things and supporting each other along the way.

We are fortunate to all live in Florida, but we don’t have the chance to be together on a regular basis due to job schedules, school activities and other conflicts.  So the yearly vacations are very much anticipated and cause a lot of excitement.  

Not only are vacations important to children, but adults also need the time away from regular schedules to unwind, relax, try new activities and bond as family members since we all live in such a fast-paced world.  There is nothing more rewarding than riding bikes, riding horses, visiting parks, kayaking, boating, fishing or any other summer activity all together as a family, making memories that will last for a lifetime.  

With current inflation and gas prices, it isn’t easy for all families to plan a trip away together.    But even some simple plans can be some of the best:  renting a small RV or using a tent in a campground can be inexpensive and lots of fun.   Finding an affordable beach cottage or park model rental can create some unique memories.  Even pitching a couple tents in a backyard and being creative with activities can give kids a time to remember!  

What is important is to take the time to be on “vacation” whether it be for a few days or a few weeks.   It is a win for everyone in the family and will be fondly remembered by all.
